world terminology + explanations

There are many concepts and new terminology introduced in Sen's canon, all of which need explanation. Here's a masterpost of everything. The list will be expanded as needed - if you have any questions, feel free to post here and I'll addres sthem the best I can.

This is the game's wiki page, I'll write the summarized information and stuff not covered in the wiki page here.

Panopticons, Sinners and Citizens
A Panopticon is an underground city, equivalent to a nation. The majority of the population of the Panopticon can be divided into sinners and citizens. Sinners are people with no technological or knowledge skills, and fight on the battlefield. They are considered a drain on the Panopticon's resources, and bear a million-year-long sentence for the crime of living upon birth. They have no rights to start with, and must earn back their rights by contributing to the society. Sinners have eight tiers, from CODE 1-8, with the higher CODE clearances signifying higher contributions and fighting skill level. Citizens are people with knowledge skills, and have more rights than sinners. If a sinner pays off their sentence, they can become a second-class citizen and start climbing the social ladder once again.

Accessories
Accessories are robots who enforce the draconian laws of the Panopticons. Each sinner or citizen is accompanied by an Accessory, which monitors them all the time. 24/7. These Accessories look completely human, except for a metallic collar around their neck and that they speak with digitally synthesised voices. They serve as assistants for their associated sinner, and will fine them if the sinner breaks any rules. This punishment is enforced by adding years onto their sentence.

They also support the sinner in battle, and can revive them if they are downed. Sen's Accessory is named Ramiel.

While Accessories are called robots, there is canon evidence to suggest that they are human, but not conclusively. There is an NPC who states that Accessories are 'just like us (humans)'. The Accessories are stated to run on Will'O, a type of energy that is generated by human bodies (explained further down), and do not require refueling. So far, the speculation/explanation that fits canon evidence the most is that they are modified humans, or at least partially made from humans. Until further canon evidence is made available, I will be going with the interpretation that their bodies are mostly human, but modified with technology. Most importantly, the human body's capability for free will/independent thought is severed/lobotomized, turning them into mindless robots. Where the manufacturing plants obtain these human bodies is not known.

Will'O and Thorns
Will'O is stated to be energy that is embodied in a vector field that possesses a nervous system like living things. In Japanese, it is translated as 'electrical signals with a will of their own', hence Will'O. There are higher dimensions involved in its transmission, but canon gives little explanation further than that.

It is what fuels the Abductors and the Accessories. Will'O occurs naturally, welling up at many locations, and is also generated by human beings. In its pure form, it appears as blue, pulsating energy.

Will'O is also what constitutes the Thorn. A Thorn is a piece of equipment issued to all sinners, and it appears as a thorny glowing vine. It can be launched at walls or objects and used as a grappling hook, allowing the sinner to maneuver around the field and fight Abductors. When the Thorn is deployed, its charge will decrease, and when the charge depletes the Thorn will be unusable. The Thorn can be recharged from the sinner's own Will'O field, and restores over time.

There are three types of Thorns - Binding, Healing and Shielding. The Binding Thorn is red in colour, and can be charged to produce traps that ensnare humans and Abductors. The Healing Thorn is green, and can heal allies as well as creating a Thicket that continuously heals surrounding individuals. The Shielding Thorn is white, and can boosts allies' defense as well as create barriers that block projectiles.

This is an example of an Abductor being pulled down by a Binding Thorn and a Shielding Thorn.

One unique attribute about Will'O is that it can revive humans and Accessories alike. In the game, a sinner or Accessory can be dealt fatal damage by an Abductor in one or two hits. A fellow sinner or Accessory can then revive the downed individual within a short window of time. Sinners use their Thorns (the revival process costs a segment from the Thorn gauge/charge), and Accessories have it as an in-built function. Thus, killing a sinner is difficult, since it requires taking out their Accessory as well. A good sinner-Accessory tag-team can survive repeated cycles of near-death and revival to destroy Abductors or multiple waves of hostile sinners.

Abductors
Abductors are giant robots that abduct Citizens as well as downed Accessories. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and can kill people in one blow. Not only are they physically immensely strong, most of them also come with artillery and sometimes even laser cannons. Thus, a team of sinners is required to take down Abductors, either through artillery fire, sawing off their arms/guns, or both.

Of course, a destroyed Abductor is not just left to rot. Much of its carcass can be salvaged for scrap.
